Welcome to Professor Catarina Villamariz!

Our network keeps expanding and where it keeps expanding is apparently Portugal! I'm pleased to say that another of our long-time collaborators, Professor Catarina Madureia Villamariz of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, has agreed to take up a more active rôle within the Rethinking the Medieval Frontier project. Catarina is an art historian with particular interests in the interactions of religion and architecture, which has led her to work on how frontier situations where alternative influences are available bend those dynamics. As a consequence, she offers a needful corrective to those of us (like your humble correspondent) who tend to see the geopolitical frontier as primary, by reminding us that religious and cultural frontiers also exist and may need different tools of analysis. We stand to profit greatly from her joining us, and indeed we already have plans, so stay tuned...
