Welcome, Dr Andrea Mariani

Our network is always happy to gather in new people who also want to change the way the world thinks about frontiers, and such a one is Dr Andrea Mariani, of the Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar Cultura, Espaço e Memoria at the Universidade de Porto, who I'm pleased to announce has now joined the Rethinking the Medieval Frontier project. Andrea has presented in our IMC sessions a couple of times now, and since it looks as if he's going to carry on doing so, and we like that idea, we extended our invitation to him to join and he has accepted. Andrea is especially interested in fortifications, whoever ran them, churchmen or laymen, and studies this comparatively – and we do like comparison – between especially the medieval diocese of Porto and the Italian zone of Braganza, using both textual and archæological sources. These are all valuable things to have in our project, so, welcome Andrea!
